We've all got holes to fill...

"And them holes are all that's real. Some fall on you like a storm, sometimes you dig your own." Those are, of course, the immortal words of the late, irate Townes Van Zandt (I don't think he was irate, but it rhymes. And "late, great" is so cliched). Those words also perfectly describe the situation in our house right now. The mold abatement folks have come and gone, and this is what they left us with. Lots and lots of holes. See?

Yeah.

Lots of holes.

And these are just the holes that I'm AWARE of. There could be any number of holes I'm totally unaware of (that's not true, I'm just setting up a joke). To avoid any confusion, I'll refer to these holes that I'm AWARE of as "aware-holes" or "a-holes" for short.

Obviously a quickly-approaching project will be covering our a-holes with sheet rock - to prevent embarrassment when we have guests over in the future. I certainly wouldn't want our family and friends to be greeted by our uncovered a-holes on their first visit!

The hardest part will be getting the texture right. Our walls and ceilings are all textured, so we'll have to texture the sheet rock so that people can't see the outline of our a-holes even after they're covered. It will be a dirty job, but I think Joel's up to it.

Also, not even pictured in this whole mess is our brand new back door! It doesn't leak - a HUGE improvement over the last one! Believe you me, there were plenty of times I wished I didn't have such a leaky backdoor. It probably goes without saying, but Joel is just as pleased as I am with the upgrade.

Rrrrrreally quick bulletin: We started working in the greenhouses. We've had a couple meetings about it, we've weeded a lot (full disclosure: Joel's weeded a lot, I've weeded minimally), we've peed the bed about it once or thrice.

Overall, things are going exactly as planned. It's nerve wracking, of course, but everyday we learn a little bit more about what we're supposed to be doing and how things should work. We even ordered pansies! SEVERAL colors will arrive someday soon!

EXCITEMENT!

I will most definitely update you lovely folks during planting, and everyday after that. I'll take lots of new pictures of them everyday, even when nothing at all has happened. It should be enthralling. I really know now to keep people coming back for more.

Finally, I'd like to tell you the story of a dear friend of mine, Tommy Tuberson.

Tommy Tuberson, with his tadpole side-kick, Spud.

I met Tommy earlier today while prepping for the mashed potatoes we had at dinner. Those guns are what first caught my eye, but he really does have it all: beautiful eyes, lots of potassium...solid to the core. And Spud was just adorable.

Anyway, earlier today Tommy and Spud challenged a pair of local tough guys, who go by the names Knife and Peeler, to a duel. These two had been devastating Potatopolis for days now...turning regular Joe Toes into dehydrated husks of their former selves. A photo of the carnage taken by one survivor...

The "DEHYDRATOR"

Anyway, Tommy and Spud had had enough. They called Knife and Peeler out in front of everyone. I'll spare you the gory details, but it seems Tommy Tuberson and Spud will only live on in our memories. RIP Young Yams. You will be tasty.

Well, that was fun. For me anyway. And if you don't like it, well, Spud yam it, you're just crazy.

OK, that'll be it for me today. Tune in later and I'll update you on how patching up our a-holes turns out, and of course, pansy pictures!

I'm Kiley.
